How it works

  1. 1Choose a photo of the person looking straight at the camera, with the face and shoulders in view.
  2. 2Pick the country and document. The rules for that preset show above the photo: size, head height, background colour and, where it applies, the online upload limits.
  3. 3The crop box is placed on the face for you. Move it if you like, and keep the head inside the oval guide. Leave Replace the background on to get the colour the document asks for.
  4. 4Choose Single photo, Online upload file, or a 4 x 6 inch or A4 sheet, then select Make the photo and download it. Print sheets at 100% size.

What the options do

Country and document
Each preset has the size in millimetres, the head height from crown to chin and the background colour. Some also have the pixel size and the largest file size for the online application. Choose Custom for any other size.
Head and eye guides
An oval that shows the head height the preset asks for, with a line at the middle of the head. Use it to check the crop after the automatic placement.
Replace the background
Cuts the person out with an AI model and puts them on the required colour. The model is about 120 MB and downloads once the first time. Turn it off if your photo already has a plain background that meets the rules.
Use the colour the document requires
When on, the background takes the preset colour. Turn it off to choose your own colour.
Output
Single photo is a 300 dpi JPG at the printed size. Online upload file is resized to the pixel size of the application form and compressed under its size limit. The sheets repeat the photo as many times as fit on 4 x 6 inch or A4 paper, with cut lines.

Questions people ask

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Face finding, background change and layout all run in your browser. Only the model files, which contain no personal data, are downloaded once.

Will my photo be accepted?

The tool gets the size, head height and background colour right for the preset, but offices also check expression, glasses, lighting, shadows and how recent the photo is. Read the current rules of the office that receives it. Each preset says how well we could confirm its numbers on an official page.

Why do some presets say they are not confirmed?

For some countries, including parts of the Bangladesh rules, we could not open an official page that lists the numbers, and consulates and websites disagree. Those presets use the most common published values and say so. Use Custom with the numbers from your application form if they differ.

Which background colour should I use?

The one in the preset. Most offices ask for plain white. The United Kingdom and some Schengen offices prefer a light grey or cream, and the preset follows that. You can pick your own colour if your office says otherwise.

How good is the background change?

It is very good on people against a plain or lightly busy background, including hair. Check the edges at full size in the result. If you see a halo, take the photo in front of a plain wall and try again, or turn the replacement off.

How do I print it at the right size?

Open the sheet in any photo app or print dialog and choose 100% or Actual size, never Fit to page. A 4 x 6 inch sheet matches standard photo paper.

Can I use a photo of a baby or child?

Often the rules are different for young children, for example a lighter background and no need to look straight. Check the office rules, and use Custom if the size differs.
