Questions people ask

What are the YouTube limits?

100 characters for a title, 5,000 for a description and 500 in total for tags. Check YouTube Studio if they matter, since limits can change.

Why does the title get cut earlier than 100 characters?

Displays have limited width. Search results and phones cut titles with "..." near 60 characters, so put the main words first.

How are characters counted?

As visible characters, so an emoji counts once. YouTube may count some symbols differently.

Do tags still help?

Very little. YouTube says tags help only with commonly misspelled words. A clear title, description and thumbnail matter far more.

What should come first in a description?

A sentence that says what the video covers and why to watch, with the main keywords, before any links or timestamps.
