JSON and CSV converter

Turn a JSON array into a CSV table, or a CSV file into JSON objects.

Your files stay on your device

How it works

  1. 1Choose JSON to CSV or CSV to JSON.
  2. 2Paste your data, or choose Try an example.
  3. 3Set the delimiter, and whether nested keys use dots.
  4. 4Copy or download the result, then open the CSV in Excel or Sheets.

What the options do

Delimiter
Comma, semicolon, tab or pipe. Use semicolon for spreadsheets set to a European locale.
Nested keys as a.b
A nested object like {"a":{"b":1}} becomes a column named a.b, and the reverse conversion rebuilds the nesting.
Detect numbers and booleans
When reading CSV, turns 42 into a number and true into a boolean instead of keeping strings.

Privacy

Everything runs in your browser. What you paste is never sent to a server.

Questions people ask

What JSON shape works best?

An array of objects that share the same keys. A single object is treated as a one-row table. If rows have different keys, the columns are the union of all keys and gaps stay empty.

How are arrays inside a row written?

As a JSON string in one cell, for example ["a","b"]. A CSV cell cannot hold a list, so this keeps the data without loss.

Does the CSV need a header row?

Yes. The first row is used as the property names. Duplicate or empty header names will give you unusable keys, so fix those first.

Why do I see a row-length warning?

Some rows have more or fewer cells than the header. The data is still converted, but check for stray commas that are not inside quotes.

Are commas and line breaks inside values handled?

Yes. Values that contain the delimiter, quotes or line breaks are wrapped in double quotes, and inner quotes are doubled, as RFC 4180 describes.
