What the options do

Words
A word is a run of letters or digits, so "don't" and "well-known" each count as one.
Reading speed
Slow, average or fast silent reading. Average adult readers manage about 200 to 250 words a minute.
Speaking time
Based on 130 words a minute, a comfortable pace for a speech or voice-over.

Questions people ask

How does it count words?

It counts runs of letters and digits separated by spaces or punctuation. That matches how word processors count in most cases, though they may differ by a few words on dashes or symbols.

Does it work for Bangla and other languages?

Yes for any language that separates words with spaces, including Bangla, Hindi and Arabic. Languages written without spaces, such as Chinese and Japanese, are not split into words.

Do characters include spaces?

Both numbers are shown: characters with spaces, and without spaces. Line breaks count as whitespace.

How is reading time worked out?

Word count divided by the reading speed you choose, rounded to the nearest minute.

What counts as a sentence?

Text ending in a full stop, question mark, exclamation mark or the Bangla danda. Abbreviations such as "Dr." can add an extra sentence.
