How it works

  1. 1On a phone, select Take a photo for each page. Or choose photos you already have.
  2. 2The page edges are found automatically. Check the corners and drag any that are off.
  3. 3Choose Enhanced colour, Grey or Black and white. Turn a page with Rotate, and drag the page tiles into order.
  4. 4Select Make PDF and download your document.

What the options do

Look
Enhanced colour evens out the light and whitens the paper. Grey is for text with some shading. Black and white makes the smallest files and is best for plain text pages. Original keeps the photo as it is.
Black and white level
Higher makes more of the page black, which helps with faint pencil or ink. Lower keeps thin lines clean.
Find the page edges automatically
Looks for the page against the table and straightens it. Turn it off to use the whole photo. You can always drag the corners by hand.
Page size
Same shape as the scan keeps the page as photographed. A4 and Letter place each scan on a standard page.
Quality
Higher keeps small print sharp and makes a larger file. Black and white pages are stored losslessly.

Privacy

This tool runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to a server.

Questions people ask

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photos are read and cleaned up on your device and the PDF is made there too. No app is needed and nothing is sent to a server.

How do I get a good scan with a phone?

Put the page on a plain, darker surface, use good even light, avoid your own shadow, and hold the phone above the page. If the edges are not found, drag the four corners onto the corners of the paper.

Why was the page not found?

A white page on a white table has no edge for the tool to see. Drag the corners by hand, or put a dark sheet under the page and take the photo again.

Can I scan many pages into one PDF?

Yes. Add as many photos as you like, then drag the tiles into order or use Earlier and Later. Each photo becomes one page.

Can I make the text searchable?

Not in this step. After you save the PDF, open OCR PDF and add a searchable text layer to it.

Does it work on an iPhone and on Android?

Yes, in a current browser. Take a photo opens the camera app. On a computer you can add photos from a folder instead.
