How it works

  1. 1Choose your PDF.
  2. 2Pick Form fields only to lock filled-in forms, or Everything as pictures to lock all content.
  3. 3Select Flatten PDF.
  4. 4Download the flattened file.

What the options do

Form fields only
Each fillable field becomes ordinary page content with its current value. Text elsewhere stays selectable.
Everything as pictures
Form fields are flattened, then every page is redrawn as an image. This also locks comments, highlights and stamps, but the text can no longer be selected.
Resolution
For picture mode. 200 dpi is sharp on screen and in print; 300 dpi makes larger files.

Questions people ask

Is my file uploaded?

No. Flattening happens in your browser.

What does flattening mean?

A form field is a box someone can still edit. Flattening replaces the box with what is written in it, so the answer becomes part of the page and cannot be changed in a form filler.

Will someone still be able to change the PDF?

Flattening makes edits harder, not impossible. A person with a PDF editor can still alter the page content. It is not a security feature.

Why does it say there are no form fields?

Your PDF may not contain fillable fields. Comments and stamps are not form fields. Choose Everything as pictures to flatten those.

Why did the file get bigger?

Picture mode stores each page as an image. Use a lower resolution to reduce the size.
