How it works

  1. 1Choose your JPG, PNG or WebP photos, or drag them onto the page.
  2. 2Read the list of hidden data found in each photo. A warning shows when a GPS location is inside.
  3. 3Leave "Keep the which way is up note" on so sideways photos still open upright.
  4. 4Select Remove metadata and download the clean photos, or a ZIP.

What the options do

What is shown
The camera and lens, the date taken, software, owner and serial number fields, and the GPS location if the phone saved one. Rarely used fields are counted as "other".
Keep the "which way is up" note
Phones often store a photo sideways and add a note on how to turn it. Keeping that one note stops photos from opening sideways. Everything else is still removed.

Questions people ask

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photo is read and cleaned in your browser. It never leaves your device.

Does it lower the quality?

No. The picture data is copied exactly as it was, and only the metadata blocks are left out. The file usually gets a little smaller.

What exactly is removed?

Exif (camera, date and GPS), XMP, IPTC and comment blocks in JPG, text and time chunks in PNG, and Exif and XMP in WebP. The colour profile stays, so colours do not change.

Why should I remove metadata?

A photo posted online can reveal where it was taken and with which phone. Removing the data before you share is a simple privacy step. Social networks often remove it too, but not all do and not every sharing method does.

Which formats work?

JPG, PNG and WebP. For other formats, convert them first with Convert to JPG.

Can it remove the metadata of many photos?

Yes. Add as many as you like. Each photo shows its own list, and you get all clean copies in a ZIP.
