The preview appears here.

The preview is cleaned of scripts and event handlers. The HTML code tab shows the converter output as it is.

How it works

  1. 1Write or paste Markdown on the left, or choose Try an example.
  2. 2Check the Preview tab to see how it looks.
  3. 3Switch to HTML code and copy it, or download an .html file.
  4. 4Adjust the options if line breaks or tables do not look right.

What the options do

GitHub style
Turns on tables, task lists, strikethrough and automatic links, as GitHub Flavored Markdown does.
Single line break becomes a line break
By default Markdown joins lines in a paragraph. Turn this on to keep each line break.
Preview and HTML code
Preview shows the rendered result. HTML code shows the markup you can paste into a page.

Privacy

Everything runs in your browser. What you paste is never sent to a server.

Questions people ask

Is the preview safe if I paste untrusted Markdown?

The preview is cleaned with DOMPurify, which removes scripts and event handlers. The HTML code tab is the raw converter output, so clean it again before putting content from other people on your site.

Does it follow CommonMark?

Yes. It uses the marked library, which follows the CommonMark rules, plus GitHub-style extras when that option is on.

Can I use raw HTML inside Markdown?

Yes. It passes through to the HTML code. The preview shows it after cleaning.

Why is my table not rendering?

Tables need GitHub style turned on, a header row, and a separator row with at least three dashes per column, such as |---|---|.

Are headings given IDs for linking?

No. The output contains plain tags. Add IDs in your site generator if you need anchor links.
